It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Bud Brownridge on August 30, 2023, at Revera Long Term Care in Winnipeg at the age of 88 years old.
Left to cherish his memory are his stepdaughter Sheila Kristenson; his grandchildren whom he adored, Laura and husband Wally Kucharsky, Kristen and husband Bruce Isabel, Brad Lysak, and Ainsley and husband Brad Moore; and his eight great grandchildren Cadence, Kalya, Rowan, Ella, Vaylen, Oakin, Ayla and Adam.
Bud was predeceased by his precious partner, Joyce Kristenson (2010) of 32 years.
Bud’s passion was creating gourmet meals every single day. On special occasions ‘the spread’ filled the table and was fit for royalty! Bud insisted he do all the grocery shopping, prep work, cooking, clean up, and dishes. The kitchen was known as Bud’s domain.
For many years Mom and Bud would pack a picnic and take their grandchildren to Gimli beach for the day multiple times throughout the summers. Mom and Bud found a secluded spot they favored and would delight in watching their grandchildren having the time of their lives. Another of their favorite day trips with their grandchildren was to Oak Hammock Marsh, in every season.
Bud loved treating his grandchildren annually to Ice Capades and always made sure they each had more than enough money to buy treats and souvenirs. His generosity was also extended to any invited friends.
At a young age Bud’s grandfather taught him how to shoot a rifle. Bud, along with his dad and grandfather, would go duck hunting. Bud treasured those times they had together.
Bud had a passion for motorcycles – especially Harleys, became a pilot in his 30’s, and worked for the Department of Public Works in Winnipeg.
For many, many years Bud and Mom enjoyed spending half their time living at the family cottage at Nutimik Lake. Fishing was a love they both share and when they were lucky enough mom would cook up a big pot of sturgeon stew.
Bud was a kind man, caring man, compassionate man, a generous man, and a gentleman. “Budda”, as he was affectionately called, was mom’s ‘rock’.
Budda loved his “Little Duck”, as he would affectionately call mom.
Bud led a very private life and his family was everything to him.
A special thank you to the staff at Revera Long Term Care 4th floor for their excellent care of Bud which spanned nearly 14 years. A very special thank you to Nurse Tittu who regularly went above and beyond for Bud. Tittu, your gentleness, empathy, patience, and compassion did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated.
To honor Bud’s wishes there will be no formal service. A private family burial will take place later.
If friends desire a donation can be made in Bud’s memory to the Alzheimer or Dementia Society.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
