Randall,
Herbert Sinclair, age 91, of Dagger Woods, Antigonish County, passed
away on September 20, 2023, in St. Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in
Antigonish, he was a son of the late James and Mary (Corkum)
Randall.
Herb was
certainly a hard worker. He started driving a school bus at
16 years of age. He later worked as a Diesel Mechanic at a
Mine in Northern Ontario at a young age, an experience he fondly
remembered, later working in the construction of the Canso
Causeway. He also worked at Provincial Motors in Halifax for
number of years before moving back to Antigonish
permanently.
In 1964, he
aquired the Fina Service Station Operation on the west end of Main
Street in Antigonish, later to become Petro Canada which he operated
for approximately 30 years. His career as a school bus driver
continued through these years later while moving into Charter Bus
driving until the age of 78.
Herb also
enjoyed all kinds of outdoors activities, including skiing, boating,
snowmobiling, riding his motorcycle, and going to the
beach.
He is
survived by his children, Brenda (Martin) Swinkels, Afton; Darrell
(late Anne Marie), South River Road; Philip (Donna Murray), Upper
South River; Steven (Melissa), Minto, NB; and Glen (Tracy), Evanston;
grandchildren, Dustin, Jessica, Caitlin, and Devin Swinkels;
Christopher and Bryce Randall; Bailey and Liam Randall; Lauryn and
Wyatt Randall; and Brady and Paige Randall; great grandchildren,
Marty, Leah, Henry, and Dirks Swinkels and John Randall; and siblings,
Gordon (Joan), Brooklin, On; Allan (Joan), Truro; Frank, Bayfield;
Earl (Irene), Bayfield; Carol, Edmonton; and Heather,
Parrsboro.
Predeceased
by his wife, Barbara.
Cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and
7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street,
Antigonish. Funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00pm in
St. James United Church, Antigonish, with Reverend Peter Smith
presiding. Burial in St. Matthew’s Cemetery,
Afton.
