It is with broken hearts that we the children (Stacy & Henry Jr.) announce that our beloved father has reunited with our mother. Henry House on September 5th, 2023 from the Health Sciences Center in St. John’s at the age of 67. Mom and dad had been apart for two long years, the longest absence since they were teenagers and we can only assume that she needed him back as much as he needed her. To our mother he was a partner and companion whose depth of love knew no bounds and no restraint, and when dad got the news that he and mom would be together again, he was not afraid and was at peace.
To us he was our dad, one of the foundations of our family, but he was also so much more. He was a teacher, an advisor, a mentor, a confidant, a therapist, a banker, a mechanic, a chauffeur, a landscaper, and a security guard when needed. To others he was a poppy, son, brother (in-law), uncle, cousin, and treasured friend.
Left to mourn with many funny and happy memories are, his son Henry House Jr. (Bethany), daughter Stacy Stewart (Jody), and the center of his world, his three grandchildren, Alicia (baby doll), Ryan (Ry) and Logan (Logie). Henry also leaves behind his siblings and many friends, far too many to list individually but all who were important to him.
There is no one word to describe the man our father was. Some say kind, funny, charming, handsome, loving, witty, a hard case, a great worker, a great friend…the definition would be different depending on whom you speak with. To us, he was a constant companion; he taught us loyalty, sacrifice and courage. Even in his final days, he put his family first and thought about what we needed in the moment over what little time he had left. It is all these qualities and more that made him the man he was, and us the people we are today.
The family would like to offer their gratitude to the staff at the Health Sciences Center for the care and respect that dad received in his final few days. To Erin at Cauls Funeral Home, who knew our dad personally for looking after dad when we could not and for making that process something we were comfortable with. Thank you to all of our family and friends who came to be with us, brought food, was a shoulder to cry on, shared so many memories with us and told us how much our father meant to them. A heartfelt thank you goes to our Aunt Stella who once again was “our person”.
Cremation has taken place at the request of Henry and as per dad’s request, a small celebration of life will be announced in the coming days.
