It is with great sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Henry d’Eon on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 94, shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Henry was the son of the late Charles (1941) and Leonice (d’Entremont) (1960) d’Eon. He was the middle child of seven: Mariette (2013), Leonce (2018), Delbert (2011), Delphine, Benoit (2013) and AnneMarie.
Henry was born on December 23, 1929 in Middle West Pubnico, Nova Scotia where he lived until the age of 2 when the family moved to Meteghan, Nova Scotia. At 20 years of age Henry left Meteghan for Hamilton, Ontario where he resided until his passing.
Henry worked at Stelco for 38 years (1950-1988) where all but the last 6 months (Bar Mill) of his service to the company was in the 1210 Mill. He retired from Stelco in January 1988 after which he took the position of “porch lookout” for the neighbourhood very seriously. When he wasn’t tinkering in the garage, gardening, enjoying a game of cards, going to “Down Home” dances or attending his grandchildrens events-you would likely find him on the front porch of the home where he lived for 68 years. In his later years he also enjoyed whizzing around the neighbourhood and to Limeridge Mall on his motorized scooter.
Henry was the beloved husband to Mary (nee Gillis) for almost 70 years until her passing on March 10, 2024. He was the loving father to: Corinne (November 18, 2023) (Larry) Austin, Rachelle (Tom) Kaduk, Charlene (Steve) d’Eon-Weis, Wayne (Yukiko) and Alan (Shelly). He was the much loved Grandpa to: Dennis (Sarah) Austin, Breanne (Dylan) Hachey, Kevin Austin, Kiara (Andie Norman) Weis, Kassidy Weis and Mirai d’Eon. He was the cherished Great Grandpa to Mariline and Henry Austin and Sunny and Leo Norman. Henry will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, neighbours and special friends.
Henry was an honest and compassionate person. He was a quiet man (preferring to listen) and was liked and respected by all who knew him.
Visitors will be received at P.X Dermody Funeral home, 796 Upper Gage Ave (between Mohawk & Fennell) on Tuesday November 26, 2024, from 5:00-8:00 o’clock. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday November 27, 2024, at 12:00 o’clock with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
