Eda passed away at West Park Manor on January 23, 2023 at the age of 108 and a half years.
She was predeceased by her husband George in August 1967, her father Reinhold Anderson, her mother Hattie (nee Sutherland), her brothers Oscar, Bert, Eric, Harold and Verner, her sister Lorna, her step-sister Irene and step-brothers Gunnar and Anton.
She is survived by her sons George (Pat), Robert (Linda), daughters Elaine (Eldon) and Joyce (Bill), five grandchildren, Christine (Greg), Cheryl (Mike), Andrea (Steve), Keith and Cara and nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Judah, Rainn, Cody, Jamie, Micah, Lauren, Alex and Norah.
Eda was born in Old Kildonan and spent her early years with her family in various remote logging camps in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, often accessible only by train. (eg. Favel, Ontario)
Mom was a devoted mother and homemaker and she had many friends.
After her husband George passed away, Mom attended Adult Education Course and attained her Grade 12 in order to find work and to support her younger children. She then worked at Pioneer Grain until her retirement in 1979.
She moved to British Columbia in 1979 for one year and then returned to Winnipeg.
Thanks to her son George and wife Pat, Eda was able to enjoy travel to Hawaii, Fiji and England, among other places. Mom also traveled with her daughter Elaine to many places including Churchill and to the Maritimes. She enjoyed cottage times and outings with Bob and Linda and also her visits with Bill, Joyce and family in B.C., sightseeing and picnicking.
Mom was a character, quick witted and she enjoyed joking, pranks and laughed easily. She spent many hours knitting, crocheting, sewing for her family and for charities. She also shopped for shut-ins and made meals and delivered them via bus. Mom frequently did the Free Press Jumble Puzzle and won the contest several times.
Her grandchildren especially remember her for her colourful scarves and knitted snakes!
A Family Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at West Park Manor for all their care and kindness.
If so desired, a donation in Eda’s name can be made to a charity of your choice.
