Obituary of Helen Priscilla McMichael
Helen Priscilla McMichael (née Haefling) passed away on Thursday, December 7th, 2023 at the age of 101. Helen peacefully died knowing she was going to be soon in the arms of her beloved husband Louis who left this earth in 2003 after 59 years of marriage. She was also looking forward to being in the presence of her infant son James Robert and her Mother who passed away just after Helen was born.
Helen lived to be such a significant age because of the way she chose to live each and every day. She approached life with a positive attitude, a sincere sense of caring and a great sense of humour. Helen knew to make health and physical fitness an important part of her daily routine. Her spirituality was strong. Her prayers were powerful and helped many family members and friends throughout the years.
Helen practiced yoga and meditation and also became trained in Therapeutic Touch. People would seek out her treatments. She was a member of St. Louis CWL for over 60 years receiving her 60 year pin in 2006. Helen worked many years at the Waterloo YMCA running the lunch counter.
She leaves behind her four children – Colleen, Bill (Suzanne), John (Carolyn) and Mary Grace (Gordon), 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be held. Helen has asked that anyone wishing to make a donation please do so to the charity of their choice or to Helen’s favourite one: The Children’s Wish Foundation.
Family and friends of Helen McMichael are invited to her Celebration of 101 years of Life. This event will be held on Saturday, May 11th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Grey Silo Golf Club in Waterloo. A simple service will take place at 3:00. Please join us to share stories and happy memories.
