BROWN KENNEDY, Helen Margaret – passed away unexpectedly at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Helen Brown Kennedy of Tillsonburg and formerly of Port Rowan in her 90th year.
Beloved wife for 47 years to the late Marcel Ethier of Montreal, who predeceased her in September, 2011. Dear mother to Kathy Schattmann and husband Harry of Port Rowan, and Derek Kennedy and wife Beth, of Camp Borden. She’ll be remembered fondly by her grandchildren, Christopher (AKA Alexander), David, Madison, Shannon, Erin and Liam, and all her nieces and nephews and friends. She is survived by her brothers Ron Brown and wife Diane of Arnprior, and Don Brown of Carlsbad Springs.
She is predeceased by her parents, Gregory Charles “Charlie Brown” of Cantley, Quebec, and Catherine Anne (Fleckney) Brown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, her son, Ken, her brother Mac, her sister Shirley Lucas, her sister-in-law, Jackie Brown, and her stepmother, Hazel (Boland) Brown.
Mom will be remembered lovingly by many for her many kindnesses. She retired early from the Bank of Nova Scotia and spent her time at her chalet in the mountains of Ste. Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec, where she would spend hours in her many gardens. In the winter, snow removal replaced her time in the garden, something that wasn’t as joyful but “it had to be done” she would say. She was an avid cross country skier, she loved her books and spent time each day reading followed by an evening of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Family and friends were so important to her. She loved them all so dearly. She was always surrounded by friends and family, and loved to entertain, and many of us all enjoyed many weekends and vacations there, the great and delicious dinner experiences and her wonderful baking. In 2011, after the passing of our stepfather, she moved here, a move that was undoubtedly hard as she said goodbye to her husband, her friends, and her home. In 2018, she moved to Harvest Crossing, where she blossomed and flourished, which was comforting and rewarding to see.
Mom was our ‘Energizer Bunny’ and we often teased her. She had so many health issues, and setbacks as a result, but she just kept changing the batteries and kept going and doing. Unfortunately, this time, the batteries weren’t enough. But, she lived a long and good life, just shy of her 90th birthday, and in that and the many wonderful memories she left us all with, we can find comfort.
There are a few people we need to acknowledge and send thank you’s to:
To Karen and the staff at Harvest Crossing… Thank you, because of your great work, mom thrived. Just know she loved each and every one of you. To her niece, Shannon and Lilica Jane…Thank you for all the phone calls, cards, letters and the many pictures. Mom always looked forward to these, especially your stories Lilica, they were so important to her. To Debbie Pettes, thank you…from all your cards, the knitted sweaters, blanket, her haircuts, and so much more over the years.
Mom…know you were loved, know you will be greatly missed, but now ’You’re in the arms of the angels, may you find some comfort there’.
Private funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jeffrey W. Glendinning Funeral Home, 36 Front St. Port Rowan. Personal condolences can be posted at www.gffh.ca.
