Helen Leila Pearl
1928-2024
It is
with heavy hearts that we, the family of Helen Leila Pearl of
Kentville, announce her passing on June 29, 2024 in the Valley
Regional Hospital. Born in Port Williams on December 9, 1928 she was
the daughter of William and Annie (England)
Brown.
Mom was
well known for her quilts and her knitting – two of her favorite
hobbies. She was taught to quilt by her mother and like her mother
everything had to be done by hand – to her using a sewing machine was
not the way to make a quilt. In her 90’s she had to give up sewing
because of arthritis. Not a problem because she loved to knit. She was
hardly ever seen without her knitting needles and a ball of yarn.
Countless hours were spent knitting baby hats and mittens for the
hospital as well as hats, mittens, socks and sweaters which she
donated to the Red Cross. She was also more than happy to fill the
many orders she received from friends and neighbors for her
knitting.
She is
survived by her daughter, Elaine (Gary) Schofield, Casey Corner, South
Alton; sons, Ralph (Charlotte, deceased), Medicine Hat, Alberta;
Reginald (Cheryl and her children, Brian and Tiffany), Berwick;
grandson, Jeffrey Schofield, South Alton; granddaughter, Melissa
(Tyler) Singh, Medicine Hat, Alberta; sister, Jane Harvey, New Minas;
as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by our dad,
Floyd Pearl; her brothers, Gordon, Harry and George Brown; sister,
Gladys Zwicker and brother-in-law, George
Harvey.
At her
request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private
family committal service was held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam
Mill at 11:00 a.m. on July 3rd, 2024. Donations
in memory of Helen may be made to the IWK Foundation or charity of
your choice. Arrangements have been
entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.
