Mrs. Helen Germaniuk, age 97 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2023 in Bethammi Nursing Home.
Helen was born in March, 1925 in Strathclair, Manitoba, but wasn’t registered until August 15, 1925 and so that became her legal date of birth. She always celebrated both. She was affectionately known as Granny or Nannie to everyone. She was an excellent cook, her specialties included Polish dishes, carrot cake, cinnamon buns and chop suey. She loved making everything from scratch. Before her Lewy Body Dementia slowed her down, she was a bundle of energy. Growing her garden and tending to her flowers was her favourite part of every year. She loved her raspberry bushes and made jelly every year to share with family and friends. She also loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and never turned down an opportunity to babysit or have the kids and their dogs over.
Survived by her children, William (Shirley) and Victor; grandchildren, Larry (Lisa), Rick (Donna), Wendy (Gerard), Jesse, Enaunda and Dahnis; six great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; siblings, Joe (Rosie) Fron; Victoria Graham and Frances Fisher-Smith as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Predeceased by her husband, John (1981); her parents, Frank Sr. and Mary Fron; siblings, Walter, Julia, Frank Jr., Henry, Annie, Edward, Elsie, Roselee and John.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank Randy Middleton as well as the Dr’s, nurses, PSW’s and staff who cared for Helen over the many years that she was a resident of Bethammi, thank you.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 2:30pm until 4:00pm in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Interment will take place in St. Andrew’s Cemetery at 2:30pm on Monday, February 6, 2023.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society or Bethammi Nursing Home.
