Helen Osborne Obituary
It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Helen Marilyn Osborne (nee Dodds). Helen was born on June 9, 1936 to Max and Vera Dodds in Belleville, Ontario. She was the first of what was to become 5 children; Helen, Barbara, Donna and twins Arnold and Arlene. She grew up on a farm and used those skills throughout her life. In 1957, while at a social dance, she met the man who would become the love of her life, Milton Bruce Osborne. They married in June 1958 and Esther Marie was born in February 1960. They were again blessed with the addition of Paul Matthew in June 1966 , and their family was complete.
Over the years, Helen held a variety of jobs; babysitting, seamstress, renting TVs to patients at the local hospital and eventually working in several positions at Zellers. She retired early to be with Bruce at their home in Northbrook, where they remained until her passing. Helen was an expert at many crafts including quilting, sewing, knitting and smocking, and was a wonderful cook (oooo those apple pies!). She loved to chat but always had an ear for those in need.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Bruce, daughter Marie Johnstone (Dave), son Paul (Cheryl); grandchildren Angela, Sarah, Hilary, Mark and Matthew; great grandchildren Zachary, Mason, Brayden and Callie. As well, as her sister Arlene VanSchaik.
Helen was a very generous person and supported many charities over her life including MS Society and Heart and Stroke to name a few. Over the last few years she had been supporting the Great Cycle Challenge, which raises funds for SickKids and Children’s Cancer Research.
As per Moms request a private celebration of life will be held at a later date . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Great Cycle Challenge or the charity of your choice.
