It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Hazel Elizabeth Braman, age 96, on Thursday November 30, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney on June 8, 1927, Hazel is predeceased by her husband Thomas (Tom), parents Wilbert Vooght and Hazel (Ryder) Hoyt, stepmother Gladys (Wilkens) Hoyt, siblings Keith Hoyt, Kaye LeMoine, Gladys Mitchell and special cousin Jan Pledge.
Hazel was employed as the confidential secretary to the Mayor and Town Clerk of North Sydney until her retirement. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in North Sydney and was active with the A.C.W. Hazel had a keen sense of humour, loved music and singing especially in her home and writing poems and songs. Hazel enjoyed baking and knitting and shared her creations with family and at church fundraisers. After retirement in 1992, Hazel enjoyed travelling with friends to many different parts of the world. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and close friends.
Hazel is survived by her daughters Nancy and Deborah Braman, both of North Sydney, Catherine (Peter) McAuley, Halifax, grandson Thomas (Jen) McAuley, Edmonton, special nieces Sheila Galey and Elaine MacInnis and numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Ward 4C and Palliative Care “An Cala” unit at the Cape Regional Hospital for the care given to Hazel in her final days.
Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday December 7, 2023, followed directly by a service at 1:00 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney and Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, NB at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church or to a charity of choice.
