Harry Dubyts Obituary
Harry John Dubyts passed away on February 6, 2024 at the Baldur Personal Care home. He was just shy of his 95th birthday.
His parents Fred and Nellie settled and farmed in Belmont. Harry grew up in a large family with two brothers and six sisters.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Shirley in 2020. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage farming side by side. He is survived by his children and their extended families.
The early years for Harry were full of learning and adventure growing up on his parent’s farm, and attending Mount Hope School. He loved horses and even in recent years would still talk fondly about the joy of riding and working with horses.
Both Harry and Shirley were hard workers and committed to learning better farming practices. One of his favorite times was harvest, when you could find him in his John Deere combine going up and down the field, hour after hour. Many a time, he’d have the company of his kids or grandkids.
Next to his family, farming came first for most of his life, but Harry also loved sports like curling and baseball. They loved to travel visiting family and friends, trips with the trailer, heading south for the winter, first to Texas before getting a place in Mesa, where they enjoyed many years of valued friendships, happy hours and golf games.
As comfortable as he was riding in a tractor or combine all day by himself, he loved social get togethers, playing a prank on someone and getting pranked himself. He was very active in the community always willing to volunteer for the rink or the community hall.
When it came to being a father, he was our rock. He was always there for us providing great advice. He enjoyed watching and supporting his children in their activities. He coached curling, was a chauffer for hockey, judo and music lessons. He could be counted on to lend a hand building a deck or a playhouse for the grandkids. His calm and clear thinking was something that could be counted on and will be truly missed.
Harry’s final home was in the Baldur Personal Care home which he enjoyed. Shortly after moving in, he shared this comment with one of his children when they asked what he thought of it so far, Harry replied, “I don’t have to shop for food, cook and clean up – they don’t just do your laundry, they put it right into your dresser – what’s not to love!” To the people who cared for him as if he was one of their own loved ones, we are forever grateful.
Part of what he truly enjoyed were the activities which Donna organized including floor curling, chair balloon volleyball and a steady stream of local entertainers. A Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the Belmont Community Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend. A family interment took place in the Hillside Cemetery, Belmont, MB.
