It’s with grief and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of an amazing father, grandfather, and brother, Harry, who passed away at Royal Jubilee hospital on May 16, 2024 at the age of 83. He and his twin sister, Gail Archbold were born in Victoria on their grandmother, Else Jones birthday, November 27, 1940 to Harry and Francis (predeceased). He kept a close relationship with Gail all this time.
He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Jean. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his twin sister Gail, and sons Harry (Deb, Cody and Shelby) and Scott (Cathy and Tyler) of Australia.
As a young boy, Harry attended Qualicum College school for part of his education. In his early twenties, he owned and operated his own service station Hillside Shell, where he met Jean while doing his banking at the time. He and Jean were married at Oak Bay United Church in 1964.
Continuing his career as a mechanic, Harry worked at the Sears Automotive Centre from 1969 until he retired in the late 90’s. Once retired, his love for fishing had him operating his fishing charter business Oak Bay Charters full time.
Harry and Jean enjoyed camping in their RV. A few road trips East included a memorable one to Alberta. They spent most long weekends camping on Vancouver Island. The August long weekend camping in Parksville next to the car show was one of his favourite’s.
He’d say one of his greatest accomplishments was his children and was proud of the achievements and lives built by both Harry and Scott.
His greatest role yet was that of Grandpa to Cody, Shelby and Tyler. He loved camping and hanging out with Cody and Shelby, and thanks to technology, he cherished his weekly facetime calls with Scott, Tyler and Cathy.
There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I was a regular morning care worker for Harry until 2022. I always enjoyed my visits with him and his stories about his work at Sears Automotive. I particularly admired the touch he had with the delicate orchids he had in his window. They seemed to be constantly in bloom. He will be missed.

I would like to wish you my condolences in the passing of Harry last week. Harry was a good friend of mine, he always had a coffee ready for me every time I visited him over the past 20 years. We had many good times together, trading pins with he and Jean, adding to our collections. Harry will be missed by all.
My sympathies to the family and friends of Harry.

I met Harry as a fellow fisherman on the docks at the Oak Bay Marina. He quickly became a friend and fishing mentor. My wife Sylvia knew him as a fellow employee at Sears Tire shop at Hillside Centre and knew him to be friendly helpful and generous to a fault. Harry was a gentleman in every sense of the word and a wonderful family man. We’re certain that Harry leaves many very warm but broken hearts at his passing.
