Harriet died on Thursday, October 19, 2023 after living with a brain tumour for the past four years. She was predeceased by her parents Harry and Margaret Walker and her sister Roberta Mireau. She is survived by her husband Lloyd; her children Greg (Tammy) of Weyburn, S.K., Laurel Lamont (Mike) of Langley, B.C., Michael of Regina, S.K.; brother Clifford Walker (Fran) of Regina, S.K.; sister in-law Carol Steele of Swift Current, S.K. Harriet spoiled and inspired her beloved grandchildren, Jaclyn Falck (Colin) of Kelowna, B.C., Katelyn Lamont of Kelowna, B.C., Brendan Lamont (Nicole) of Peachland, B.C., Sophia of Regina, S.K. and Ana of Vancouver, B.C. Harriet is also survived by her nephews Aaron and Nathan Walker and their families.
She received her primary schooling in Regina except for a three year stint in Germany where her father was appointed Principal of an Armed Forces school. Her summer holidays of those three years were spent travelling around Europe with her family, in a small tent trailer. This must have sparked her love of travel. Back in Regina, she graduated from Campbell Collegiate (with a grade of 51% in math!) and then took a secretarial course and began work for various local organizations. At this time, she met Lloyd and they were married shortly after.
Harriet then devoted her time to being a full time wife, mother, homemaker, friend and community volunteer. As if these activities were not enough, she started taking Social Work classes at the University of Regina, eventually enrolling as a full time student. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work Degree and started her career with the Regina Health Region at the Pasqua Hospital working in the Emergency Department. However, when she began working in Palliative Care it became obvious that she had found her true calling. Her dedication and compassion for her patients and their families was recognized by their trust and appreciation for all that she did for them. She was a tenacious advocate and would never give up until she achieved what she knew to be right.
After retirement, she and Lloyd spent a great deal of time travelling the world, seeing it from cruise ships, river boats, buses and safari jeeps. She also enjoyed their annual winter escape to the warm beach at Ixtapa, Mexico where she developed lasting friendships with many diverse people. She will be missed by the gang at Good Spirit Lake: The Zborosky’s, Wilkinson’s, Benko’s, and Andruschak’s.
Harriet will be sorely missed by all who knew her – family, friends, co-workers, and all those whom her life touched. There will not be a formal funeral service, but an informal gathering to acknowledge and commemorate Harriet’s life will be held in the following weeks, date and location will be announced.
