Harold’s Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Harold Decker, who passed away peacefully at his home in Reidville, NL on January 15, 2023 at the age of 84.
Harold was the first child of William and Stella Decker, born on November 21, 1938 in Woodstock, NL. He married his love Christine Saunders on January 5, 1962. They shared 61 years together and had four children: Kevin, Glenda, Brian, and Michael.
Dad had many different careers throughout his life. As a young boy, he had to leave school and help his father fish for a living, as he was the oldest of twelve children. He spent the majority of his life working for Advocate Mines, in the forestry, and working for the Woodstock town council. Dad always enjoyed spending time in his garage fixing some tool that was broken or making something from wood. He enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows: Dallas, The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, and The Gospel Hour with Bill and Gloria Gaither. He had a love for animals and especially the many cats that lived in their home. Later in life, Harold enjoyed going to church at the Salvation Army in Woodstock and sharing his love for God.
Harold is predeceased by his son Kevin, parents William and Stella Decker, father and mother in law Garland and Alice Saunders, sisters in law Nina Decker and Audrey Saunders, and brother in law Guy Mitchell (Ann).
Left to mourn a lifetime of memories are his children Glenda Decker (Gordon), Brian Decker (Kimberly) and Michael Decker (Lindsay), grandchildren Bethann, Cody, Alexander and Miriam, brothers and sisters Winston Decker, Gary (Maxine) Decker, Joseph (Anne) Decker, Ann (David) Mitchell, Kay (Zach) Sacrey, Sharon (Bill) Sullivan, Ted (Elaine) Decker, Boyd (Patricia) Decker, Jacqueline Decker, Judy (Dennis) Canning, and Janice (Freddie) Drover, siblings in law Gordon (Beatrice) Saunders, Calvin (Barbara) Saunders, Lewis (Loretta) Saunders, and Ross Saunders, as well as many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will take place at Parsons Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan 21st @ 2 p.m.
As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations came be made to The Salvation Army.
The Decker family would like to thank the wonderful care he received from each home care worker that was employed by TLC Nursing & Homecare.
