Gwladys passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital on Saturday March 30th at the age of 88.
Gwladys was born and raised in Swift Current Saskatchewan (Go Riders!) and relocated to Ottawa with her husband Ron Reynolds (predeceased) on their honeymoon. She worked at the British High Commission until she started her family.
It was a proud day when she and Ron bought their first and only home in the village of Richmond. Over their long history they made significant contributions to village life. Gwladys was a long- time member of the Richmond Curling Club; one of the founding members of the “new” curling club building and the seniors’ daytime curling program. She was also a dedicated member of the Richmond Legion and Ladies’ Auxiliary, serving as one of the notorious “pie ladies” with her dear friend Joan Adams. Other volunteer activities included Hospice Ottawa and the Red Cross.
Gwladdy was known for her impish sense of humour and her skits and pranks at the curling club and Legion. She spent her last night joking and laughing over shared memories with her family.
She will be greatly missed by her brother Tom Morgan (Marilyn) in Alberta; her extended family in Western Canada; and her new friends and staff at Red Oak Retirement Living where they loved her sense of humour and sass.
Beloved mother to Wendy, Rhonda (Terry Pretty), Valerie (Peter Bews), and Jeff (Jane Ven der Buhs). Loving and proud Gramma to Megan (Grant Fortier) and Andrea (Thomas Jaques) Pretty; Alex, Heather, Nick and Abbie Bews. Thrilled to be great Grandma (GG) to Claire Fortier who she doted on.
The family would like to thank Dr Xu, the nurses and staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital ICU and emergency departments. A special thank you to the PSWs at Red Oak and the Champlain Home and Community Care Support Services. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore and Baseline Road) on Saturday June 8, 2024 from 12 pm to 1 pm. Followed by memorial service at 1 pm. Family would like to invite family and friends to Royal Canadian Legion, 6430 Ottawa Street West, Richmond for reception from 3 pm – 6 pm. Donations may be made in Gwladys’ memory to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation
