January 6, 1933 – June 27, 2024 (Age 91)
Now as we stand bidding you adieu,
We’ll hold onto the lessons you taught us true.
Though you’ve embarked on your final FLIGHT,
Your love, dear Dad, shines ever bright.
Born in Cook’s Harbour, NF, to Gladys Hancock and William Hallingham in January 1933, Guy was the middle child in a family of 14. While his siblings joined the family business fishing, Guy had different aspirations & joined the Canadian Air Force at age 18, where he worked hard to become an aircraft mechanic.
On the train coming home in 1956, he met Elsie who would become his wife. They married in June of 1958 and Roger followed in 1959, Elaine in 1960, and Dana in 1964.
He enjoyed his time in the service, having had the opportunity to visit (camping) many European countries while posted in Germany in the early 1960s. The family returned to Canada in 1966.
He retired from the military in 1975, and later took a position at Air Canada upon which he fully retired in 1995.
He passed away June 27, 2024, at the age of 91 after suffering from Parkinson’s for 12 years.
Guy leaves behind his wife Elsie of 66 years in Kelowna, BC, son Roger (Diana) of Parksville, BC, daughter Elaine (Ron) of Summerland, BC, and daughter Dana of West Kelowna, BC, as well as 6 grandchildren: Stephen, Caitlin, Kyle (Savana), Erin (Corbin), Adriana (Matt) and Maria. Two greatgrandchildren join the mix, Austin and Leah. He loved everyone dearly.
Guy was predeceased by his parents Gladys & William, as well as sisters Olive, Drucella & Alma, and brothers: Rex, Thomas, Basil & Horace. He is survived by sisters: Grace, Triffie (Ernest), Laverne & June (Ralph), and brothers Stedman and Llewellyn (Thelma).
There will be no funeral service, as per Guy’s wishes.
