It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce Gregory’s sudden passing on April 15th, 2024, in Change Islands, Newfoundland.
Gregory was born to Lydia (King) and Robert Jeans of Change Islands. In addition to his parents, Gregory leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories, daughter, Abigail; son, Daniel; life partner, Tina; numerous aunts and uncles; many cousins who loved him dearly; a multitude of friends; and a whole community that will never be the same as he will be missed dearly.
Gregory was predeceased by his brother Leslie; grandmothers Maryann Watkins, Hilda Bradley and Greta Martin and grandfather, Leo King.
If you were in Gregory’s company for even a short time you would hear his pride and love for his kids, Abigail and Daniel. Telling stories of their accomplishments and life experiences was his favorite topic. He was always so excited to spend time with them. They were the love and light of his life.
Many people of Change Islands (and beyond) will describe Gregory as the community handyman – Mr. Fix-It. His skills as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and jack-of-all-trades were often called upon from all who knew him. He was always willing to help whenever anyone needed him. Even those who did not know Gregory very well would say if you’re having a bad day, he would make you feel better. Gregory’s kindness was so genuine, and he never wanted anything in return. Even a bad cup of coffee with a friend made Gregory happy. His infectious (and highly identifiable) laugh, ready smile and kind words were always available. Gregory didn’t treat anyone like a new friend. From the very minute you met him it felt like you were lifelong friends. He was immediately someone you could call for help or just a cup of coffee together. He touched the hearts of so many people. He never let life get him down. He was a hard worker and a true friend to many. He enjoyed being with people and his love for life was irresistible. His famous phrase of “Good night and God bless” was his signature – even during the day.
Visitation will be held for family, friends and all those who wish to honor Gregory’s memory. (Date and time to be announced).
Funeral service will take place at Bethel Pentecostal Church, Change Islands. Date and time to be announced with Pastor Mike Freake officiating. Interment will follow at Pentecostal Cemetery.
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
So loved, so missed and so very dear.
As you were, you will always be,
Treasured forever in our memory.
There is no death just a transition from the physical life to the spiritual life. A world without Gregory will never be the same but it is with comfort and confidence we know he is resting in peace in the Everlasting Arms.
