Greg’s Obituary
It is with broken hearts we announce Greg Clemens, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2024, with his loving wife Joan and fur baby Winston by his side. Greg put up an incredibly valiant fight against cancer. He faced this last challenge with courage, dignity and bravery.
Greg, a life long resident of McLennan, was born in High Prairie on January 4, 1955. First born to Peter and Norma Clemens (nee Crawford).
Greg’s laughter was loud and infectious, he loved to be with family and friends. Travel, camping, cabin at the lake, snowmobiling, road trips in his (Joan’s) beloved corvette, and cooking are just some of what Greg loved to do. When it came to his passion, he was all in.
Sports was a huge part of Greg’s life. He played hockey for the Lethbridge Sugar Kings/Lethbridge Longhorns, Regina Pats and Medicine Hat Tiger Junior A teams. Greg returned home to McLennan and continued to play hockey with High Prairie Regals and the McLennan Red Wings. Many vacations were spent golfing across Canada and the US. He was always up for a challenging golf course. Curling, bonspieling brought lots of laughs, stories made and embellished. Many lifelong friendships were forged through his sports. Along with playing sports Uncle Greg was a huge cheerleader for the nieces and nephews and his favorite teams.
Shortly after finishing school, he began his railroading career. He experienced many changes as a brakeman/conductor for NAR, CN, Rail-link, MacKenzieNorthern, and back to CN.
He is predeceased by his father Peter, mother Norma, his father-in-law Ray Cunningham (Romola Powell), mother-in-law Beatrice Cunningham (Dave Hallman). We would be remiss if we didn’t mention Greg and Joan’s furbabies, Sheba, Babe, Katie, and Holly.
Left to treasure his memory is his loving wife of 48 years Joan Cunningham, their furbaby Winston. His siblings Deborah, Sandi (Antti), Kevin (Suzanne). His “outlaw” siblings Gary (Sarah) Hebert, Brenda (Don) Seely, Debbie (Paul) Paradis, Wayne (Janice), Nicci (Les Cook) as well as his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6th at the Legion Hall in McLennan at 1:00 p.m.
Joan extends her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. De Wet for the compassionate care and comfort he provided Greg this past year.
