Obituary of Grant Raines
It is with broken hearts that we announce that Thomas Herbert Grant Raines, age 85, of Port Perry, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023. He was predeceased by his loving parents Theodore and Eileen Raines and his grandson Riley Sweet. Grant is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Gisele and their six dear children Annette (John), Teresa (Randy), Tommy, Danny, Michael (Annie) and Laura (Jason). He will be forever missed by his brothers Jim (Carol) and Tim, his seven grandchildren Rebecca, Hannah, Gracie, Wynter, Willow, Lucas and Evelyn, his niece Emily, his nephew Graham and his cousins. Grant was born in Port Perry, but spent many years away from his hometown during his time with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He returned to his roots in Port Perry once he retired from the military in 1988 to begin a new career with Air Canada until he retired again in 2003. Spending his retirement years close to family in Port Perry was something he always dreamed of when he was away from home with the RCAF. Grant was very grateful when his wish came true. Grant enjoyed spending his new found free time with his family and flying his remote-controlled planes, that he built, around the Port Perry fairgrounds. He could often be seen cruising around town in his beloved Mercedes Benz every chance he could get. Grant was a very sociable man and loved to share his many stories and life experiences with anyone that was interested. He always filled our house with life and love. Much like his parents, Grant was also a generous man. He would gladly share whatever he had with everyone he knew. Whenever someone gave him a helping hand, it would never go unnoticed and he would always express his gratitude with a small token of his appreciation. Many neighbours received a Tim Hortons card or a bottle of his favourite wine whenever they shovelled his driveway during his golden years. Grant will live on in the hearts and memories of everyone he touched. Respecting Grant’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date. We would like to thank the members of Veterans Affairs and the Port Perry Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419 for all the help Grant received from them during this past year.
