It is with great sadness, and some relief and gratitude, that we announce the passing of our sister Grainne, peacefully on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Juravinski Hospital, wrapped in the loving arms of family.
Grainne’s sixty-four year journey was filled with trials and tribulations, but was also very blessed with the births of her two beautiful children, Brendan and Kendra, with their father Bob Thomas. She took great joy in cooking, and like many in her family, she had a quick wit and easy laughter. Grainne was a beautiful, bright light, slowly dimmed by addiction over the years. She was supported by family and friends through her many efforts to overcome her struggles. Grainne is predeceased by her parents, James and Mary, and her brother Brendan. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Robert (Cheryl), Seamus (Mary), Angela Evans (Kenny), Fiona Rollo (Gordon), Terry (Diane), Siobhan (Dave Hughes), Donna Kendellen (Doug), Fidelma DiFlorio (Paul), and Moya DiPietro (Emidio), many nieces and nephews, and her devoted lifelong friend, Maureen Farrell. Grainne’s health was also compromised by lung cancer over the last several years. We are grateful for the compassionate and excellent care that she received from Dr. Baloush and the other health care professionals both in the community and at Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre involved in her care. Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of her life is planned for a future date.
