Remembering Grace
Grace Elizabeth Lockerby (Carruthers) – 90, of Tatamagouche passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 at the Willow Lodge Home for Special Care in Tatamagouche. Born in Oliver, Grace was the daughter of the late William and Mary Bell (Oliver) Carruthers. Grace is predeceased by her siblings; Lewis, Burns, Keith, Warren, Doris, Ivy, Ruby, Marguerite and John Murray. Grace leaves behind her husband, the love of her life, Alan. She is survived by their beloved children, Joanna (Larry) Hunt and Peter (Sandy) Lockerby and sister Catherine Joudrie. Grace will live on in the hearts of her 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren of whom she was extremely proud.
Grace lived with a zest for life and dedication to her community. She had fond recollections of serving families of Tatamagouche during her long career working at the C.G. Fulton Pharmacy. In retirement, she volunteered in several capacities from reading with children at the elementary school, to supporting at the Willow Lodge well into her eighties, exemplifying her commitment to enriching the lives of people throughout the human experience. Grace was a proud member of the Sedgwick Presbyterian Church, serving on the Board of Managers, a former Sunday School teacher and enjoyed working at countless church suppers over the years. She was also a gifted watercolor artist and supporter of the Fraser Cultural Centre.
Grace thoroughly enjoyed attending and hosting family gatherings over the years; an enduring Carruthers tradition. Grace and Alan shared a 70-year journey filled with laughter, cherished family moments, scenic drives, and peaceful walks—a bond that was a testament to a life well-shared and treasured. Alan and Family extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful team at the Willow Lodge for their compassionate care and support throughout the last three years of Grace’s life. A Celebration, in true Grace style will be held in the Spring 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lockerby Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche.
