Obituary of Gordon Thomas Leard
It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Leard announce his passing at the age of 73 on March 29, 2024 in Saskatoon.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife Val of 51 years, his two sons, Lance, Lyndon (Kelsey) and his pride and joy two granddaughters Carter and Parker. He is also survived by his sisters Marion (Bob) Wall, Louise Ternan and brother Clifford, sisters-in-law Rosemary Leard and Lynne Leard and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his mother Elsie, his father Russell Sr., brothers Russell Jr. and Brian and brother-in-law Ray Ternan.
Gordon was born March 9, 1951 in Saskatoon. He attended Caswell School and Bedford Road Collegiate. Growing up Gord loved to play hockey and fastball. He also had a great interest in antique vehicles, owning a 1956 Meteor Victoria 2 door hardtop. Through school he delivered the Star Phoenix and worked part time at Stevens Red and White grocery store on 33rd St. West. In grade nine he met the love of his life Val Tremblay, shortly after grade eleven he moved to Victoria, BC for 2 years because that was where Val had moved to. Upon returning to Saskatoon Gord worked at Merlin Motors.
In 1972 Gord and Val married at the Mayfair United Church. In 1975 they built their life long home where they spent their life together to the present. Gord was very proud of Val’s accomplishments and her positivity for life. He enjoyed many memories in this home. Also in 1975 Gord began working for the City of Saskatoon and retired after 35 years of service. Gord always said «some people live to work I just work to live.»
Gord was so proud of the arrival of his sons Lance in 1977 and Lyndon in 1980. Lance and Lyndon were Gord’s entire world. He loved watching them grow attending their many sports. The boys were in hockey, soccer and ball and Gord was happiest when he was watching his boys playing sports. More than anything he was so proud of their successes and accomplishments. Gord was so excited when his first granddaughter Carter was born in 2016 and Parker in 2020. Whenever Gord had the chance, he loved to talk about his two granddaughters and how special they were. He always would say to them, «make sure you wave» whenever they left.
Following retirement God and Val enjoyed spending the summers at Greig Lake and in winter taking trips south. The most special trip they werent on was when Lance and Lyndon bought a trip to Graceland and Nashville for their retirement. Gord always said that was the one place he always wanted to see «Elvis Presley’s Graceland.»
Gord will be forever missed. «Life is not Forever But Love is»
At Gordon’s request there will be no funeral.
