Gordon Walter Kilfillen “GW”, “Gordie”.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Father, Gordon Walter Kilfillen. At age 88, our dear father passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 17,2024. Gordon was born May 7, 1936, in Midlands, New Brunswick, to the late Walter Kilfillen and Velma (Ackerman) Kilfillen. Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his son Terry Kilfillen, and infant twin brothers Garnet and Leslie.
Gordon is survived by the love of his life of 68 years, Norma (Rosengren) Kilfillen; as well as his children, Lynn (Scott) Brogan, Lana (Darren) Brideau and Chad (Jisun) Rosengren; grandchildren, David (Tabitha) Kilfillen, Evan (Tara) Brideau, and Amber (Cullen) Lavigne; and great grandchildren; Tyler and Travis Kilfillen and Myla Lavigne. He is also survived by his two siblings Kenneth (Doris) Kilfillen and Valerie (Michael) Drury.
Gordon was a graduate of Fredericton Business College. His education journey led him to pursue a career in the heavy equipment business. Before owning his own businesses, Gordon was General Manager of Atlantic Mussens (ATMUS) Equipment, and Vice-President of Marketing for Mussens, Trailco, and Mac Maritime (MTM Holdings). Gordon was the founder and President of both Rentz and Wheeltrac Equipment. Some of his achievements included: Director of Dealers Council North America for CASE Equipment; President of the Canadian Association of Equipment Dealers; and President of the New Brunswick Association of Equipment Dealers.
Gordon was always significantly involved in the communities he resided. He enjoyed curling and playing golf and was a member of the Truro Golf and Curling Club, the Halifax Curling Club, and both Brightwood and Oakfield Golf & Country Clubs. Gordon also so looked forward to his hunting and fishing adventures.
As a Christian man, Gordon was very involved in his church. During the 80’s and 90’s he attended Sunset Drive, in Fredericton, and served on their Board of Directors. He was instrumental in the development of the Christian Life Centre in Chipman where he served on their Board of Directors from 2000 to 2010. In the past few years, following his return to Fredericton, Gordon resumed involvement with the Sunset Drive Church, now known as Hopecity Fredericton.
Throughout the years Dad’s love of sports continued to grow. One could say he was a fan of all genres. He also enjoyed traveling, having many winter trips down south and spending summers at his daughter’s cottage on Grand Lake, in Nova Scotia. Above all, Dad cherished his family time with loved ones.
As a husband, father and grandfather, Dad had unwavering devotion to his family. We will be forever grateful for his love, and support. Family was everything to Dad. He would often say to us “Love is a beautiful thing”.
Dad’s legacy lives on through his family, friends, and business colleagues, who he supported generously throughout his entire life. Dad’s zest for life, his sense of humor, his genuine care and interest in people’s well-being always brought smiles to their faces through good times and bad. He could light up a room and had an uncanny ability to treat people in a way they felt important, special, understood, and cared for.
We will miss Dad’s endearing smile, and laughter more than he could ever know. Dad, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Your presence will always be with us until we meet again.
Our family would like to express our sincere thanks to Monique Corbett, Dr. Leah Murphy, Daniel Comeau and all the staff at Medley Hall, for the warm and compassionate care Dad was provided.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Christian Life Centre in Chipman, NB.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home & Crematorium (506-339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
