Obituary
Gordon Hurd of Toronto, Ontario, was called home by his Lord on March 16, 2023. He passed at Mount Sinai Hospital in his 93rd year, after a short stay in hospital during which he received the most excellent care, given his failing health. The family would once again like to thank each of the hospital’s medical and nursing staff members for the respectful, caring, and compassionate support he consistently received.
Gord was predeceased by his three sisters: Viola Lockyer, Dorothy Overend, and Rita Wardle, and by their spouses, and by his one brother Douglas Hurd. Also predeceased by his dear niece Sharon McKinney. A lone survivor of his generation is his former sister in law, June Angus.
He is survived by his very dear friend Irene Baniuk, and was loved by Irene’s family. He was “Uncle Gord” to eight surviving nieces and nephews: Sylvia Brown (Jim), Ron Lockyer (Helen), Doug Lockyer (Sue), Gord Lockyer (Trudy), Charles McKinney, Dennis Overend (Val), Goddaughter Suzanne Setchell (Owen), Nancy Alberton (Ezio), and David Hurd (Kim), and to many more grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Known and loved for his sense of humour, caring, and religious demeanor, Gord was the elderly gentleman with flowing grey hair and long white beard that could be seen, until recently, getting around on his scooter or walker in the area of Dundas and Bathurst Streets.
