Gordon Ruddell Hume
October 7, 1958 – January 12, 2024
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Gordon Ruddell Hume with family by his side
on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Georgetown Hospital, at the age of 65 years, after a long battle with
Parkinson’s Disease.
Gord was born on October 7, 1958, to Sherwood and Gladys Hume in Hamilton, Ontario. As a young
man he enjoyed being a member of Scouts Canada and was later awarded The Chief Scout’s Award
by the Governor General of Canada in 1977 and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, The Sliver Standard in
1978. Throughout his life he worked alongside his family for Hume Transport and later studied to
follow in his father’s footsteps to become a successful auctioneer and appraiser, adapting his
extensive knowledge of antiques specializing in farm equipment. He was a long-time member and
Director of the Auctioneers Association of Ontario (AAO) and a committed member and
Director of the Ontario Steam and Antique Preservers Association (OSAPA).
Predeceased by his parents Sherwood Watson Hume (2017) and Gladys Pearl Hume (Ruddell) (2022)
and an infant sister.
Survived by his brother Frank Hume, daughters Melissa Logue-Mayes (Ben) and Shelby Goodlass-Hume,
Grandchildren William and Evan Mayes, nieces and nephews Suzanne Robinson (Jon), Kenny
Hume, and Ashley Holmes (Kyle).
The family is grateful to the PSW staff who cared for Gordon over the years in his home, and most
recently the Nurses and PSW staff at Extendicare Halton Hills, and Georgetown Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Hume’s Auction Farm Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 2:00pm.
Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will occur after the Celebration of Life
at a later date.
