Gloria Kuhn (née Costen) 1942 – 2024
After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Breast Cancer mom is at rest. She was the daughter of Vera MacDonald (predeceased) and Arthur Costen (predeceased), brother to Doug (Catherine) and Robert (predeceased).
She leaves behind five children Barbara (Lawrence), Danielle (Ben), Darlene (Pierre), Todd (Mary), David (Elizabeth), twelve grandchildren, Maria, Joey (Kelly), Kyle (Sami), Kiyomi (Michael), Vince (Valyn), Maxim (Yanely), Aiden, Devin, Eric, Liam, Christien and Julianna, three step-grandchildren Alex, Vince (Sara) and Melissa, along with six great grandchildren Laila, Everly, Nestah, Juniper, Hazel, Carter and one step-great grandchild Flynn.
Born in Nova Scotia, Gloria moved to the Sudbury area with her then husband Dan (predeceased), and three small children in 1966 where they continued to grow their family.
Gloria was a proud owner of a home in Val Caron where she raised five children with a shift worker spouse. Those who knew her know she loved to garden and had high expectations of the appearance of her property (and her children’s behaviour!). She was fiercely independent as a single woman later in life following divorce, pursuing a career with Gulf Canada, and, moving to Toronto and working with the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) where she retired. She was very proud to work for the TTC and loved being an Operator, which included operating the trolley-coach as one of the last drivers on the Lansdowne line when it was decommissioned, she then moved on to work out of the Arrow Road Division. The draw of the North was always with mom, bringing her back to Sudbury to enjoy her retirement years.
Disease robbed Gloria of the enjoyment of her final few years of life, however those who knew her knew she was strong, independent, opinionated and would not have wanted the final years to pass as they had, she would be at peace now knowing she is free. The grandchildren will fondly remember the notorious G.I.K!
Thank you to Dr. Engell and the staff at the Sunset Manor Long Term Care facility in Collingwood ON, you truly are heroes. You cared for mom when we couldn’t and made her final years comfortable, words cannot express how much the Kuhn children appreciate your kindness and dedication.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society or Breast Cancer Society are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
A private family gathering will follow cremation to honour mom’s wishes to visit Nova Scotia and the Valley one last time.
