It is with broken hearts that the children of Gloria (Hubley) Flinn share the news of her passing on September 11, 2023, in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
Gloria was born and raised in Halifax, NS, where she met and married the love of her life, James W. (Jim) Flinn (d-August 27, 2000). Together they built a life of happiness and adventure, living in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, travelling the country with kids and pets in campers and cars. Without question, her favourite place to be was at her cottage in Glen Haven, NS, surrounded by family and friends.
Gloria was effervescent, joyful and had an enthusiastic love of music. She was an excellent piano player and singer, and it never took much encouragement to get her up to dance.
Curling was at the core of Gloria’s community. When she introduced herself, she would say “I’m a curler.” She made lifelong friends at the Richmond Hill Curling Club where she curled for forty years. She treasured her time both on and off the ice with this special group of people. She was a gracious competitor, and a patient coach to anyone who asked for her help. Watching her perform on stage in the annual RHCC Day Ladies’ show was always a highlight for us all.
Gloria’s love of family knew no bounds. She was the greatest supporter imaginable for her three children – Joanne (Rob Niro), Jim Jr. (Cathy McMaster) and Jayne (Craig Burton). Her six grandchildren, Markus and Caleb Niro, Sarah and Grant Flinn, and Carmen and Lilly Burton, were the absolute light of her life.
Friends in the Toronto area are invited to a drop-in celebration of Gloria’s life and legacy at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge St, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Saturday, September 23 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. A separate gathering will take place Summer 2024 in Nova Scotia, where Gloria will be reunited in eternity with her beloved husband Jim.
