Glen passed away peacefully on December 28 at Columbia Forest Long Term Care in Waterloo, Ontario at the age of 92, a month and a day short of his 93rd birthday.
Glen was the husband of Elsie (Hunsberger) to whom he was married for 67 years. He was the father of Robert and his wife Debra of New Hamburg, Susan of Saskatoon, SK, Brenda and her husband Alan Broussard of Lafayette, LA, Graham and his wife Melanie Alton of Ottawa and Richard and his wife Ruth Ann of London. Grandfather of Erin, Amy and Rachel Broussard (Kaley Evans), Zachary, William, Benjamin, Jonathan and Leif Shantz. He is survived by his brother-in-law Ken Hunsberger of RR2 Baden, sisters-in-law Mary Schiedel of Waterloo, Catherine Hunsberger of Waterloo and Ruth Hunsberger of Baden and predeceased by his parents, Mina (Eby) and Alvin Shantz, brothers-in-law Willis, Floyd, Enos Hunsberger, George Schiedel and John Stutzman and sisters-in-law Amy and Shirley Hunsberger and Erma Stutzman.
Glen owned a successful electrical contracting company in Waterloo for many years (Shantz Electric). He enjoyed golfing, traveling and after retiring, spending winters in Sarasota, Florida and summers at the family cottage next to Eidt’s Grove, Port Elgin. His greatest joy was his wife and family and he will be remembered as a kind, generous and quiet man with a positive outlook on life. When in long term care, he always thanked those who visited him and often remarked that he had “no aches, no pains and no complaints”.
A special thanks is extended to all the caregivers at Columbia Forest Long Term Care who cared for Glen the past three years. Their dedication and professionalism are to be commended.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Glen Shantz at Erb Street Mennonite Church, 131 Erb St. W, Waterloo on Saturday, May 13, 2023. Family members will welcome guests starting at 2:30 pm, with the service beginning at 3:30 pm. Following the service, guests are invited to the reception hall for a time of fellowship and a light meal. To view the service via livestream, please click this link.
