Obituary of Glenn Steven Thompson
Glenn Steven Thompson
It is with deep sadness on the morning of November 26, 2023, Glenn Steven Thompson passed away at his home in Saskatoon. Patty, his wife, best friend and soul mate of 36 plus years will miss him dearly.
Glenn was born in Regina, SK on March 13, 1959 to Dora (Downey) and Clarence Thompson. The family resided in Regina until their move to Australia and then returned to Canada, settling in Carberry, MB.
Glenn completed high school in Carberry, and while in school worked at the Modern Bakery, as well as the Carberry News Express with long-time friend Jack Lupton. After school, he worked in the mine at Thompson, MB before beginning his successful career with CP Rail in 1979 and retiring in 2014.
On November 14, 1987 Glenn married Patty (nee Christopher) and began a new chapter of his life. Over the span of his career with CP Rail, he lived in Virden, MB, as well as in Assiniboia, Tisdale and Saskatoon in SK. Glenn’s quiet sense of humour created great friendships along the way. Glenn and Patty enjoyed travel with friends and family to the warm winters of the south, as well as the amazing bike trip taken in 2022 to BC with close friends Ken and Pam Hitchens.
Glenn leaves behind his wife, Patty and their Fur Babies, Sugar and Peanut; Siblings, Fay Thompson; Murray (Val) Thompson; Allan Thompson. In-laws, Shirley (Craig) Bell; Diane (Ivan) Nicoll; Louise (Walter) Genovey; Georgina (Vernon) Currie; Barb (Don) Menzies; and Jim Christopher, George (Lorraine) Karnes, Flo Karnes. Also, very close friends who were a big part of Glenn’s family: Ken & Pam Hitchens, Nicole & Aaron Grande, Tanya & Brian Ofukany, Madison Ofukany, Evan Ofukany, Len & Myrna Foth, Amanda Reynolds, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Interment will take place at Carberry Cemetery, June 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Pallbearers as chosen by Glenn are Ken Hitchens, Brian Snow, Arnie Whitrow, and John Kack. A Celebration of Glenn’s life will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #153 in Carberry.
Please come join us to Celebrate Glenn’s Life.
Throughout his life, Glenn always made sure to look out for others first. And Glenn’s parting message is: “To not arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out, shouting, ‘WooHoo!!! What a Ride!!!’”.
In lieu of Flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation (www.stpaulshospital.org/foundation/donate/donate.php). Please indicate it is In-Honor or In-Memory of Glenn Thompson, and directing the gift/donation to: Renal Unit or Cameco Community Renal Unit or Kidney Health Project.
Patty would like to extend her heartfelt thanks to the Dialysis Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, the Cameco Community Renal Unit, and the team of Nephrologists and nurses for the many years of care and compassion they provided. Also thank you to Dr. Murphy & the ENT Team for the attention and care provided over the last couple of years, the Cancer Clinic of Saskatoon and the Oncology and Radiation Therapy Teams and the Home Care Team.
