Glen Dickenson Maybrey
It is with profound sadness that the family of Glen Maybrey announce his peaceful passing on April 20, 2024, at the age of 82.
Glen will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Sharon; daughter, Catherine, and grand-dog Ella; sister, Judy (Bernie) Hoppe; sisters-in-law Bonnie Finch and Sue Newell Maybrey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Edna Maybrey; brother Allan Maybrey, brother-in-law William Finch, and sister-in-law Shirley Almas Maybrey.
Glen grew up in Dundas and met his wife, Sharon, through Young People’s. He loved music and he loved to dance. To see the two of them was magic, and they often cleared the floor to applause and appreciation as they jived to all the best swing and rock and roll songs. Glen enjoyed golf and a good game of cards, whether Bridge, Gin, Hearts, Euchre or What the Hell, he could give as good as he got and his partners and opponents have many fond memories. As a couple, Glen and Sharon loved to travel, and they particularly loved their many trips to Chicago while their daughter completed her PhD at Loyola.
For 38 years, he worked at Stelco Hilton Works in the Security Department, first as a guard, then rising through the ranks to become Security Chief. Known for his honesty, straightforwardness, and sense of fair play, Glen was well respected by co-workers, union members, and management alike. He led his team through difficult emergency situations, and conducted investigations that had implications beyond the company gates. One of his proudest achievements was the lock system that he designed and implemented, with over 3000 locks across multiple sites, controlling access and defining security for the company.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Glen’s name to the Neighbour to Neighbour Food Bank, the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
