Obituary
Gladys Eileen Reid of Oxbow, passed away peacefully at the Galloway Health Centre on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the age of 92.
Those who knew Gladys, knew her to be a spitfire who was full of life and strong will. Gladys moved to Oxbow in 1959 and raised and supported her children through resilience and hard work. Throughout the years, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought Gladys the most joy.
As a housekeeper at the Galloway, Gladys formed many lifelong friendships including with staff that continue to work there today. Gladys was an avid supporter of the community, and was a proud member of the Legion, Red Hatters, and UCW. Most recently, Gladys received her 50-year Oil Wives pendant signifying her lifelong dedication to the club. The community knew Gladys as someone who could always be counted on to support, wherever was needed.
Outside of her family, Gladys’ one true love was curling. She rarely missed a game that was on TV, and attended many live events with her daughters, Diane and Debbie. When a curling game was on, her family knew not to call or visit her, as Gladys would be fully tuned into the game with a cup of tea in hand.
Above all else, Gladys loved her family fiercely. She will be dearly missed as a Mother, Grandmother, Auntie, and friend.
Gladys will be dearly missed and is survived by her siblings, Mike Hopkins and Joan Hargest; four children, Donna Avery, Diane Millar (Glenn Zimmerman), Ken Reid, and Dennis Reid; grandchildren, Scott, Krista (Darcy Barath), Patty, and Michelle Avery; Jackie (Mike) Dornian, Angela (Marko Tello), and Dustin (Kristen Hamp) Millar; Jackson and Parker Reid; and Shelby (Jared) Reid; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gladys was predeceased by her parents, Hulbert and Maplet Hopkins; husband, James Reid; daughter, Debbie Reid; sons-in-law, Gordon Avery and Clayton Millar; and grandchild, Adam Reid.
Following Gladys’ wishes, there will be a private graveside service for the family.

I keep hearing a voice that says,
“Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times,
the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived
while I was strong.
Continue my heritage,

Keep smiling and surely

my soul is at rest.
Remembering all,
how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions,
no matter how small.
Go on with your life,
don’t worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly,
so keep up your chin.

we’re together again.”
