It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Gladys Doreen (Stusick), (Guiguino) Sobkiw. Gladys entered eternal rest on March 20th, 2023 at Evergreen Baptist Campus of Care, White Rock, BC. Gladys was in her 93rd year. A private service will be held with family followed by interment at the Gardens of Gethsemani, Surrey, BC.
Gladys was born on December 7, 1929 in Canora, Saskatchewan to Anton and Helen Stusick, and grew up on the family farm. At the age of 14 she left home to attend high school in Winnipeg, MB, where she worked for her room and board by looking after 3 children and doing general housework. After graduation she began working for Trans Canada Airlines as a key punch operator. In 1953 she married Adrian Guigueno and the family moved to Vancouver in 1955 where she found work as an IBM data processor, moving up into a management position. In 1972 she started a data processing service with a colleague, Foremost Data Centre. After leaving the company in 1981, she began working for the Workers’ Compensation Board. In 1983 she married William Sobkiw, and after her retirement in 1987 they made their home in Delta, BC.
Gladys was always reading, learning and had a huge array of interests from health and wellness, houseplants, music and cutting-edge technology. She loved to explore new places and travel, and was always up for an adventure – still accompanying her great-grandchildren on almost every ride at Disneyland at the age of 80. She was often a tour guide for visiting friends and family when they came to BC. Gladys was a member of the CWL and the UCWL for many years and was also an active participant on her Strata Council.
Gladys is survived by her loving husband William Sobkiw, daughter Kathleen (d. Theodore Klammer), granddaughter Sharon (William Wood), great-grandchildren Rebecca, Ryan and Amanda, great-great-grandchildren Linden, Keaton and Hudson and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her first husband Adrian Guigueno, brother Marvin Stusick, and grandson David Klammer.
Our special thanks to the staff at Evergreen Baptist Campus of Care, White Rock, BC for their excellent care and kindness these past two years.
Gladys will be lovingly remembered, greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
