Obituary
Germain Labossiere
Peacefully at the Foyer Notre Dame, Mr. Germain Labossiere passed away on February 13, 2023 at the age of 82 years.
Left to mourn Germain’s passing are his daughter Alice Devloo (Albert) and son Robert Labossiere; grandchildren Michelle Berard (Luc), Paul Devloo (Shannon), Andrew Devloo (Samantha), Bryan Devloo (Nikita) and Alexander Devloo and fiancée Brittany Robidoux. 10 great grandchildren include Maxim Berard, Celina Berard, Benjamin Berard, Hudson Devloo, Bethany Devloo, Jaxon Devloo, Hailey Devloo, Claire Devloo, Teagan Devloo, Brock Devloo.
He is also survived by 2 brothers, Norbert Labossiere (Cecile), Omer Labossiere (Marilyn), sister-in-law Diane Labossiere and numerous nieces, nephews, their families and friends, especially all the great staff who worked at the Foyer.
Germain was predeceased by his parents Marcel and Eva Labossiere, his wife Lorraine (née Guilbert) in 2008, his brother Remi Labossiere and his in-laws Gerard and Eliza Guilbert.
Germain Etienne Ernest Joseph Labossiere was born October 23, 1940 at St. Lupicin, Manitoba, 2nd oldest of 4 siblings. He attended school in Somerset and the Ursuline Convent in Bruxelles. On June 9th 1962, he married the love of his life Lorraine Guilbert in Mariapolis MB. Alice was born March 6, 1964 and Robert October 1, 1965.
Germain was always friendly, courteous and very bright and inspiring. He always had a good word for everyone and was good at listening to all anyone had to say even though many health issues plagued him these last years. A good sense of humour stayed with him till his last hours as he commented it will be great to have a free beer at his grandson’s upcoming wedding in July. He wisely advised his grandsons just recently that he would take a stroke over a heart attack any day. Heart attacks were way more painful!!
Germain started his working life early at 16 years in Somerset and quickly moved on to construction and other various skilled labour work that led him to a total of over 20 moves with his young family till he purchased farmland near his hometown of Somerset. He farmed with passion and appreciated his career as a farmer till he sold his farm in 1980 at which time he and Lorraine moved the family to Somerset town.
Germain struck ill in 2006 and lasting effects of his strokes debilitated him enough to require assisted living in the Foyer. His Foyer life included the annual gardening ritual, which he loved immensely. His main goal every summer was to grow enough lettuce and tomatoes to feed all the residents and still have enough for himself. The family wishes to acknowledge the excellent care and compassion he has received since he made the Foyer Notre Dame his home.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2022 at the Notre Dame de la Nativité Catholic Church in Somerset, Manitoba. Memorial Service beginning at 1:30 followed by Mass at 2p.m. with Fr. Marcel Carriere officiating.
