It is with great sadness that the family announce Gerard’s passing on October 15th, 2023.
Gerard (Jerry) was born on April 14th, 1947, in Stratford, Ontario to John and Mary Herbert. He was a loving brother to the late David Herbert, and special great-uncle to the late Evan Hewitson.
Jerry is survived by his sister Joan Moumblow (Ron), his nieces Rebecca (Joe) and Monique (Yudi), his great-nieces Emma-Lauren, Mira, and Rucha. He was very proud to be a great-uncle and doted on his great-nieces and nephew.
In his younger years, Jerry worked at the CN Railway, and then later moved on to Westinghouse in Hamilton. Once retired, he spent his time visiting with family, especially his sister, where they went out for drives in the country and had lunch at their favourite A&W. Jerry was a frequent customer at the local Tim Horton’s at Upper Gage and Mohawk to get his double-double, and everyone in the neighbourhood knew him and said hello. In his later years, Jerry became more reclusive and kept to himself. Although he struggled with mental health issues, he was a friendly neighbour to everyone at his apartment building at 801 Upper Gage, and loved saying hello to everyone he met. He always had a smile for everyone and was the first to open the door or help someone in need. He will be sorely missed.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service.
