It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of George Leonard Fournier on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 at Health Sciences North, Sudbury. George is predeceased by his parents namely Alma Fournier and Henri Fournier along with his siblings Yvette (Rodolphe, also pre-deceased), Jeannine (Jacques, also pre-deceased) and Marcel (Cecile). George is survived by his spouse of 58 years, Louise Fournier aka “Red”, his two children namely Lynne Benoit (Marc), George Fournier Jr. and his grandchildren Sophie (Kendal) and Alex (Samantha). He is also survived by his brothers Roland (Eliane), Raymond (Rita), Aurel (Claire), Doris (Simone) and his sisters Lucienne (Lionel, pre-deceased), Simone (George), Clarisse (Bob) and Paulette Bertrand (Bob, pre-deceased) along with many nieces and nephews.
George owned and operated Tele-Sign Displays in Sudbury for 55 years. However, what defined him was being a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was at his happiest in the outdoors, especially at camp on Lake Geneva or on any golf course. He was an avid reader, a music enthusiast, classic movie buff and he was often seen tackling his latest crossword puzzle whether it be at camp or at home. In his early years, George and his wife Louise taught ballroom dancing and took part in various competitions in Ontario and out-of-province taking home several trophies. George also took part in live theatre as an actor with “ Le Club Amical ” where he acted in several plays along with his spouse Louise. George loved to laugh. He would always come up with a good pun when the opportunity presented itself. He was wise, loving and compassionate and completely devoted to his wife Louise. Although he appreciated laughter, he was never afraid to cry. His presence made any gathering so much more enjoyable and memorable. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Regrettably, George faced a lot of adversity over the last few years due to suffering from many health issues. The last few years were certainly not kind to him. Nonetheless, he persevered and with the assistance of family and various health professionals, day-to-day life became a little more manageable. As such, the family would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude and sincere appreciation to his physicians, nursing staff and personal support workers at both HSN and at the Clarion who assisted with his care throughout his illness, especially during his final days. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service at this time. Instead, a celebration of a life well-lived will take place later this year on a date, time and location to be announced. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be most appreciated.
