OBITUARY
GEORGE HUBERT YENSEN
George Hubert Yensen was born in Sudbury Ontario on March 9, 1932, and passed away at Health Science North February 11, 2024, just shy of his 92nd birthday. Predeceased by his father George Edward Yensen and mother Beatrice Marie (Aubin) Yensen. Predeceased by his second wife Norma A. Yensen (Grisdale) nee Wilson. Father of George Robert Yensen and Gilbert Gordon Yensen (partner-Ann Sears) both predeceased. Stepfather of Brian Grisdale (wife Jill) and Gloria (husband Gary Howel.) Survived by his first wife Ida Grace Loftus the mother of his sons Robert and Gilbert, survived by Jacqueline Fortier (husband Larry, deceased) of Capreol, Victoria Justine (husband Ted) of Guelph, Doris Shibley of Toronto, Shirley Hill (husband Earl, deceased) of Sudbury; David (wife Cheryl) of Capreol and Bruce (wife Sonja) of Sudbury. Predeceased by sister Joyce and brothers Gilbert (his twin,) Donald, Gary, Wayne, and Blair. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews and countless friends.
My father started his career as a callboy with Canadian National Railways in 1948. He went from brakeman to fireman on the head end, when they actually had to fire the boilers with coal. He became a locomotive engineer in the following years to retire in 1992 after 44 years of service. He was a jack of all trades. He loved doing carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical work. He was a very generous man, sometimes to a fault. Let’s not forget that he was named after Saint Hubert, the patron Saint of hunters as he always put it. He was after all an accomplished hunter; hunting deer in the early days in the Capreol area before the moose moved in and then enjoyed hunting moose later. His other hobbies included playing pool and cards and going to the slots.
I would like to thank Darren Kring and Nicole, as well as Stacy, Renee, Rosie, and Brenda for the compassion shown during my father’s time in the hospital. I would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 5th floor – south tower, Health Science North, for their compassion.
