Born, George Warren Gilbert Rodier, November 10, 1939 in Jacksonville Florida. George died peacefully at 10:27 on September 27, 2023 at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Esther Rodier, and his brother and sister, David and Jean.
George was an extremely talented, educated and intellectual man. Strong in his faith, he dedicated his life to studying religion and living as Christian. After completing his Bachelor of Arts from Drury University in Missouri, he went on to study at the Salvation Army College for Officer Training in Chicago Illinois in 1962.
It was while completing his training in the ministry that he met the love of his life, Josianne Mathilde Paris; coming from Switzerland, she too was studying at the College. His first and only love, he would often tell the story of the first time he saw her across a room and fell in love with her immediately. Graduating a year before her, they waited until after her officer’s commission and were married the next day, June 16, 1964 in Belvidere Illinois. They remained together, inseparable, until Josianne’s death, March 9, 2023.
On March 28, 1967 George and Josianne’s son, Pascal Bramwell Rodier, was born in Belvidere Illinois. George was extremely proud of his son and his career as a paramedic and public safety leader. George’s love and pride extended to his daughter-in-law, RCMP Superintendent Dustine Rodier (Fisher), his grandson, Sub-Lieutenant Brandon Rodier (RCN) and his granddaughters Kela and Makena. Ever so proud of his family he would often brag of their various accomplishments and talents. Whether telling stories of Pascal and Dustine “saving the world”, Brandon’s naval adventures, Kela’s talent in art and fashion or Makena’s badminton skills and journey into her International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, his pride of his family was endless. He also loved the family pets, Duke the dog and Mochi the bunny.
A Member of the Saint John Society of Model Railroaders, he shared his love of railway and specifically his passion for Swiss trains. He studied his family’s history, sharing his writings with others, academic institutions and state archives.
George was known by all as a very kind and appreciative person. Seeing the good in everyone and every situation, he always wanted to ensure that people knew that he appreciated them. A gentle soul, he shared his stories, humour and love of life with many. From his amazing extended family, John, Joanne Mason and their grandchildren, Maverick, Makenna and Madi to the incredible staff at Bobby’s Hospice, George shared his joy of life, love of them and true appreciation for what they all did for him.
George will be cremated and, together with Josianne, will be placed at a special location. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John are appreciated; an amazing place filled with Angels.
George loved his wife, family and friends deeply. He saw the good in all and appreciated what people did daily. If there is one thing that he has left with us all is the reminder to be kind and thankful. Sharing love, kindness and appreciation is key and something that we need more of today.
“You are onto your next song line dad. You are missed, loved and remembered. You are back with mom, holding hands into eternity. Thank you for sharing your life with us all. Me ke aloha.” Pascal, Dust, Brandon, Kela and Makena.
Arrangements are in the compassionate care of Chipman Funeral Home & Crematorium (506-339-6612). Memories and condolences may be shared through www.chipmanfuneralhome.ca.
