Obituary
Predeceased by his father Hans, mother Helena, and brother Norman. George is mourned by the love of his life, and wife of 67 years, Marian. He was a loving and beloved father to Kathryn (Bill) and Susan (Tom), grandfather to Thomas, Kathlynn (Adam), and Liam (Erica), and great grandfather to Blake (Liam & Erica). George will also be long remembered with laughter and in stories by his extended family of sisters and brothers in-law, and his many nieces and nephews.
Born outside of Noranda, George and Norman spent their early years in a boys paradise of freedom to explore and play in the bush, sometimes even attending school. When their father returned from serving in WWII they moved to Toronto, eventually settling on a small farm in the area now called Don Mills. George and Marian became classmates in Grade 5, and fell in love as teenagers. They married in 1956 and soon built their first home in Green River where they started their family. Caught up in the Pickering Airport expropriation of the 1970s, the family moved to Uxbridge where they remained for 47 years. In 2021 they sold their rural home and moved to an easier life in a senior’s apartment. George retired from his career as an ICI master plumber at the age of 56 ‘because work was interfering with his interests’. He and Marian travelled across Canada throughout their lives together, visiting the Yukon, Florida, and the Bahamas as well. George was a very involved father who prioritized spending time with his daughters; having fun, teaching us to be open to life’s experiences, and serving as an example of what we should expect of and for ourselves. He truly embraced and enjoyed all the simple pleasures in life and was well known for his passion for restoring antique cars and clocks.
It was his wish to not have a funeral service. Please spend an hour in remembrance of the time you shared with George and keep him in your thoughts.
