With great sadness we announce the passing of Geoffrey Fraser. Geoff is survived by his wife of 53 years, Annabelle, and his two sons, Michael (Jennifer) and Steven. He also leaves his two granddaughters, Anna and Lila. He joins his only sister, Elsa Wilson, who passed away in May 2022.
Geoff was born in the mining town of Kirkland Lake and spent most of his childhood in Falconbridge, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Business degree. It was there that he met a group of like-minded guys who became lifelong friends. Post-graduation, they toured Europe and proudly called themselves the “World Travellers.” This group of bons vivants continued to meet, travel and host dinner parties, along with their spouses, for many years. Geoff is the last member to join them on their next adventure.
Geoff and Annabelle met in London, Ontario and moved to Toronto when he started a career on Bay Street. They married and settled in Sunnylea. There, Mike and Steven went to local schools. They developed strong friendships with their friends on Ashton Manor, most significantly, their next-door neighbours, Elaine and Ken Wright and their family. After leaving the finance world, Geoff and Annabelle opened a Home Hardware store on the Lakeshore in New Toronto and were known to legions of customers in the area. They went to many HH tradeshows and even had a commercial shot in their store.
During his retirement, Geoff and Annabelle walked Mike and Jennifer’s dog, Daisy, almost daily in either High Park or along the Humber River. He also played bridge regularly at the Royal York Church and the Baby Point clubhouse. After suffering a stroke that left him partially paralyzed, Geoff got treatment at the Ontario March of Dimes and later volunteered there helping other stroke patients
Geoff’s favourite place was the family cottage on Lake Simcoe, which he called Fraser Villa. It was there that he was the happiest – sitting by the shore watching the sunset, drinking a large glass of red wine.
Geoff loved reading his daily newspaper, telling silly dad jokes, listening to classical music, and his family. We will celebrate his full life at a private family service this summer at Fraser Villa.
We would like to thank the staff at the Grenadier Residence and the many incredible Personal Support Workers who cared for Geoff during the past couple of years.
