Obituary of Gary Wilton Fox
Gary Wilton Fox
Dad passed away peacefully December 2, 2023, at age 82, surrounded by Family with daughters, Wendy and Rhonda holding his hands. Dad said he loved us all so much and not to be sad.
Gary Wilton Fox was born September 11th, 1941 in Prince Albert, to Larry and Eva Joan Fox. He grew up in Prince Albert, SK and in 1964, married Gail Hagel. They had two daughters Wendy and Rhonda.
Gary worked for the Bank of Montreal for over 25 years where his career progression took him and his family to many locations in SK and MB. Dad was quite a numbers man, attaining a designation as a Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA). After banking Dad went on to be an active partner at Triple S Livestock. Gary retired at age 55 and moved to his home at Neis Beach, Emma Lake.
Dad loved the lake. He found peace and joy close to nature with the birds. He even loved those Canada Geese that he would chase off “his” beach, running after them with a bell. But he sure didn’t like those squirrels in the bird feeder…thank goodness his shot with the pellet gun wasn’t that good…except when it did hit the neighbours house! He loved the lake view from the kitchen table, from early morning coffee to the end of day beautiful sunsets. We will always cherish the memories of Dad and the fun family times at the cabin. Dad had a real sense of humour, was a generous man, and was blessed to have wonderful friends that he shared daily happy hour with for over 25 years. Dad loved playing cards, fishing, curling, golfing, downhill skiing and travelling on many family vacations. Dad was also a bit of a back-room singer, well known for his rendition of Danny Boy, and others. After retirement he remained active, volunteering his time with Lakeland Lions Club, Christopher Lake Curling Rink, and The Legion. In retirement his love of numbers continued where he would challenge himself daily, completing ‘thousands” of Sudoku puzzles.
Gary will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Wendy Linnell-Ross (John) and Rhonda Bashnick (Kirby). Granddaughters: Amanda Linnell (Matthew Rahman), Courtney Bashnick (Ivan Savytskyy), Grandsons: Jesse Ross (Janelle Hatley), Mitchell Bashnick and Dylan Bashnick, and a Great Grandson born in 2023, Cooper Rahman, who Dad said got his great looks from him!
Gary is also survived by his sister, Lynda (Barrie) Ballantyne; his former wife, Gail, who he remained friends with; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Joan Fox.
Dad enjoyed his last four years at Primrose Chateau in Saskatoon, making many new friends, and visiting his Lake home when he could.
A Celebration of Life is currently planned for June 2024 at Dad’s favorite place, the lake house, AKA “Fox’s Den”, at Emma Lake.
