It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Gary Hynes of Marystown, NL announces his passing. Gary passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on July 17, 2024 at the age of 60.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife of 30 years; Anita; daughter, Erica (Tristan); sons, Michael (Anna) and Matthew (Kelly); father, Joseph Hynes; sisters, Angela Hynes, Levina Hynes (Lorne) and Judy Hynes (Keith); brothers, Louis Hynes (Diane) and Norman Hynes; plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Gary was predeceased by his mother, Myrtle Hynes; parents in law, Sam and Shirley Lane and sister, Bernice Walsh.
Gary was a very humble, hard working man. Gary was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone and everyone. He loved his family dearly and was so proud of Erica, Michael and Matthew. He was an adventurous man who loved the outdoors… skidooing, fishing, cutting down wood, bike riding or just a walk in the country.
He was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He was a highly regarded, well known athlete. His favourite sport was softball and was often quoted as being the greatest of all time. Many evenings he could be found at the softball field and throughout his life was sought after by many teams from all over the province wanting him to be a part of their team.
After being diagnosed with cancer in July of 2022, Gary never let his illness slow him down or stop him from doing the things he loved. He courageously fought to the end. In the words of his good friend Dwayne Kenway, «Gary never gave up, his body gave up on him.» During his battle with cancer, Gary’s motto was «it is what it is». He will never be forgotten, forever loved and missed by all those who had the privilege to know him.

A funeral service will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church on
Monday, July 22, 2024 at 10:30 am
In lieu of flowers, in Gary’s memory donations may be made to the family for a future gift to the charity of their choice.
