Gary Allan Gilby
– 80, Masstown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his
loving family, on Sunday evening, May 12, 2024, at Shannex Vimy Court,
Bible Hill. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late George and
Blanche (Beattie) Gilby.
Gary worked in
various sales positions over the years, making many life-long friends
along the way. He worked for Specialty Printers,
Cadbury’s and as a sales representative at Sears. Being a
people person, he ventured out on his own at the Onslow Market and
later established the North River Kwik Way; some may say that he was a
bit of a character at these stores. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed
fishing and loved playing crib. He may have considered
himself a bit of a pool shark.
Gary is
survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Hennigar; daughters, Krista Gilby,
Truro; Kara Lee Gilby (Rob Wormald), Ottawa; step-son, Mike Redmond,
Central North River; granddaughter, Jordan Wormald; step grandsons,
Mitchell Redmond, Nicholas Redmond; sister, Sharon Crowell, Truro;
many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by
his sisters, Judy Sutton, Elsie Woodworth.
Honouring
Gary’s request, a private interment will be held in
Crossroads Cemetery, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley. If so desired,
donations in Gary’s memory to a charity of choice are
welcomed.
Arrangements
have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55
