Garry KEIVER Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and brother, Garry Keiver. Born in Carmen, Manitoba on August 30, 1941, Garry passed away on Saturday, June 15th after a brief, but very courageous battle with cancer.
Garry is survived by his son Duane (Maria) and daughter LeeAnne (Jerry), granddaughter Darian (Michael), brothers Wayne (Diane), Bob, and Dale (Sherry) and his sister Beverley, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents Harry and Margaret Keiver, his sister Emily, and special friend Virginia.
Dad had a great sense of humour, always joking and a friendly hello and smile for everyone. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, fishing with his son Duane, summers spent at the lake, razzing his son-in-law Jerry about being a Vancouver Canucks fan, lunch and dinner dates with his daughter LeeAnne, playing checkers with his granddaughter Darian, and weekly coffee with his buddies. He was extremely proud of his two kids and granddaughter, and took every opportunity he could to boast about them. He was always willing to give a helping hand wherever needed and never passed up the chance for a piece of cake, pie, pastries, or chocolate bars.
Garry also never shied away from hard work. From growing up on a farm, to being a long-haul truck driver, then owning a restaurant in Calgary, moving on to the rock quarry at Burnco in Calgary, and finally an equipment operator at LCO in 1981 until his retirement in 2004.
We would like to thank all the nurses at the Elk Valley Hospital for dad’s excellent and compassionate care, as well as the home nursing staff, care aids and the support staff at Lilac Terrace when we were able to bring dad home for a few days. A very special thank you to Auntie Bev for everything.
