Garry William Cleave, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac, MB.
Garry was born on February 8, 1945 to parents Lorne and Thelma Cleave (nee Langford) at Ochre River, MB. He had 3 brothers; Clifford, Melvin and Rod and 1 sister Nancy.
He received his education at the Ochre River School. After a brief period working away, Garry returned home to take over the farm after his father passed away at age 48. He cared for his mother and sister until their deaths in 1983 and 2020.
On a beautiful day, May 23, 1998, Garry married Judy Marshall on his farm near Ochre River.
Garry’s main interest was his cow herd. He also raised horses, sheep, pigs, turkeys and chickens at various times over the years. He liked to see his animals healthy and enjoying their lives! In summer, Garry gardened and grew the best tomatoes. In fall, he rode horseback and tried his hand at canning and in winter he played pool and always liked to watch curling. But spring was a special time for him with baby calves arriving and evidence of new growth everywhere.
Garry, with sister Nancy, liked to support community events and the Ochre River United Church. Garry frequently volunteered at the Turtle River Cemetery.
Garry loved kids and to tease and play tricks on them. Especially, his nieces and nephews – from tying them up to hydro poles or trying to make them eat sileage and much more. But he was also there if they wanted to go horseback riding or drive his old truck around in the field.
Garry leaves to mourn; his wife Judy, his brother Melvin, his nephews Robert Cleave, Todd Cleave (Cheryl), Clinton Cleave, and Cory Cleave; his nieces Marsha Cleave and Michelle Roch (Jean), his cousins Marvin Matters and his sisters-in-law Lynda Wiggins, Louise Cleave, Gail Paterson and Arlene Reed.
Garry was predeceased by his parents Lorne and Thelma Cleave; his brothers Clifford Cleave and Rod Cleave, his sister Nancy Cleave, his sister-in-law Jean Cleave and his nephew Keith Cleave.
A graveside service for Garry will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 11:00 am in the Turtle River Cemetery. Ryan Raffray will officiate. Please wear your blue jeans in honour of Garry and bring a lawn chair for seating.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to honour Garry’s memory are asked to make a donation to the Turtle River Cemetery c/o RM of Lakeshore, Box 40, Ochre River, MB, R0L 1K0.
The family would like to thank Dr. O’Hagan for his care since Garry moved to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home and to Dr. Gudmundson for her care and kindness during Garry’s last days. Thank you to all of the Gendreau Home staff for their TLC. A special thank you to Lorato, Bonnie and Don who kept Garry comfortable during his final hours. Many thanks also to the Home Care workers who came to the farm to help Garry. Thank you so much to all of you!
