Jan 21, 1941 – July 19,2024
Gail passed away at age 83 with her children close by.
Gail was hard working, motivated and caring. She was born in Ottawa to parents Hap and Nell Glanville and brother Bob. She enjoyed winter sports with her parents and cross country skiing to school.
Hap was an RCMP officer and his posting brought the family to Vancouver in 1952. Her grandfather owned the Fell Candy Factory in Vancouver which inspired her love for sweets.
Gail attended Kits High school where she made life-long friends, many of whom frequently attended reunions.
Gail became a Registered Nurse at 21years old. She quickly travelled the world nursing and making new friends, keeping in contact with many of them to the present day.
Gail used to say that she had “ travelled the world 3 times over ”
Gail returned to Vancouver to marry Glyn and be a mom to Lauren. Morgan and Karly soon arrived and they slowly rebuilt their house room by room into a loving family home that endured to this day.
Glyn was a caring, strong and protecting husband for 53 years. Gail instilled a strong work ethic in her children, along with the importance of an active lifestyle. Her love of travel was passed on to her children and grandchildren, together with the importance of the quest to achieve your goals.
Gail was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren. Lauren’s daughters Caila and Tessa, Morgan’s sons Tyler, Stephan, Lucas and Gavin and Karly’s wee ones Ruedi, Isla and Sian. She loved to spoil her grandchildren – baking cookies, painting Christmas pictures on the windows, swimming and making hot chocolate and pancakes every morning when they would stay over. Over the years she travelled far and wide to be with her family.
Gail worked as a nurse in hospitals and then in Youth Detention Centres. Her caring heart and approachable manner helped countless troubled youths over the years.
Gail loved sports and being competitive! She met Glyn playing badminton, loved tennis and skiing, and always encouraged an active lifestyle in her family
Her love of animals spanned her whole life, from feeding the local humming birds to her beloved doggies – Micky Buddy, Bear, Russell and Charlie.
Gail was committed to volunteering and helping in her community. From children’s sports committees to Percy Norman pool, Community Police, YVR Green Coats, Kilarney Senior Centre and school PTA’s, Gail was always generous with her time and commitment.
Latterly Gail cared for Glyn in their home and once he moved into a nursing home she visited him frequently.
Gail had the kindest of hearts and welcomed friends and strangers with open arms. She loved meeting new people and always extended an invitation back to the house, or at least a delivery of home made chocolate chip cookies.
We will miss you Mom.
