Passed peacefully away January 13, 2024, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, Frederick (Fred) George Abbott, age 83.
Predeceased by parents Stanley and Ida Abbott (Noseworthy), parents-in-law Richard and Ethel Hannaford, infant stillborn son, sister Jean Critch (Dave), brothers Charles and Arthur Abbott, sisters-in-law Barbara Abbott, Barbara Rodgers (Bob), brother-in-law Aubrey Pike and other extended family members.
Leaving to mourn Carmel, his wife of 57 years, daughters Lynette Caines (Jarrett), Jennifer Osmond (Mel) and grandson Brennan Caines, brothers Don and Earl (Sharon) Abbott, sisters-in-law Violet and Janet Abbott, Debbie Pike, Pamela Reardon (Gary), brothers-in-law Kevin (Darlene) Hannaford, Robert (Linda) Hannaford, Gerard (Zeta) Hannaford and a large circle of relatives and close friends.
Fred was a long-time employee of Molson Breweries where he was very well liked and a friend to many.
For many years he was an avid bowler holding top league averages and countless high scores. He loved watching hockey and baseball and playing a great game of cards with friends and his “harem” at the cabin where he was known as “The Mayor”.
The family sincerely recognizes the help of the many medical professionals who have been there for Fred through his past medical issues. They would also like to recognize the recent medical staff at St. Clare’s, both in the Emergency and 7 West units.
Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Wednesday, January 17 and Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral service at St. Teresa’s Church on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on Beaumont Hamel Way.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations to NL Health Care Foundation healthcarefoundation.ca/donate towards purchase of sleeper chairs for the comfort of family and caregivers of patients.
