1930-2024
Our
beloved wife and mother, Freda Fredericks (Russell, McGee), 93, passed
away peacefully at the Soldiers Memorial Hospital Veterans Unit on May
15, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born in
Blue Mountain on November 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late
Murray and Dora (Gould) Russell. Freda was raised on the family farm
and schooled at the Blue Mountain one room schoolhouse. She graduated
from Kings County Academy and attended Mack Business College. Her
career began at T.P. Calkins Ltd., and after 30 years in the banking
industry, she retired in 1988 from TD Bank in
Kentville.
Freda
was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who
exuded love, grace, generosity and kindness. She will be remembered
for her warm smile and for her devotion to her family and friends, to
her much loved sheltie, Heidi, and to the causes close to her heart.
She was a lifetime member of the St. James Anglican Church and the
Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed her bowling leagues and many
travels to Spain, Portugal, and the
Caribbean.
She was
predeceased by her first husband, John Daniel McGee (1926-1967),
Kentville and son, David, in infancy; brothers, Beverly and Marvin;
sisters-in-law, Jackie and Mary-Ella (Russell), and Grace Earle;
brother-in-law Clyde Earle.
She is
survived by her husband of 26 years, Kenneth Fredericks; sons, Dan
McGee (Sonya), Coldbrook, and Kevin McGee (Doreen), Sherwood Park, AB;
brother, Floyd Russell; sister-in-law, Mazie Russell; grandchildren,
Kara (Gordon), Dustin (Terri), Kaitlin, D’Arcy, Dylan
(Hanna), Morgan (Kristin); great-grandchildren Colby, Jaxson, Gracie,
Quinlan, Adeline, Maria, and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews who
lovingly knew her as Aunt Fe.
Freda’s family would like to
sincerely thank the health care providers of the Soldiers Memorial
Hospital Veterans Unit whose compassionate care allowed her to spend
her final years in comfort and dignity.
Cremation has taken place; there will
be no visitation. Arrangements are under the care of the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service will take place at St.
James Anglican Church in Kentville on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:00
p.m. Rev. Kristin MacKenzie officiating. For those unable to attend, a
video webcast will be available online on Friday, May 24. Reception to
follow in the church hall. All friends and family are welcome to
attend and celebrate Freda. In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that donations be made to the St. James Anglican Church or to the
