It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Fred Stroud in his 90th year. He will be deeply missed by daughters Carolyn Monaco (Bruce Lockhart) and Marilyn (Gary Petrovsky), granddaughters Hanna (Matt Rundle), and Paige Petrovsky, sister Marnie Rothwell (Jack) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Joan, parents Alfred and Velma (née Flowers) Stroud, brother Vernon Stroud (Arlene) and sister Lorna Krauss.
Fred, who was always grateful to his father for moving the young family to Dundas, continued to champion his love of the town with his involvement in baseball, hockey, golf, the recreation department and Kids for Kaga. He also served on Town Council for two terms from 1973 to 1979.
His love of cars led to stock car racing in his early years, and a career in auto mechanics, sales and service.
His very active retirement included motorcycle trips with Joan throughout Canada and the US, boating, and family time at the cottage, golfing, and his love of woodworking, which resulted in many wonderful projects. He was probably best known for the countless number of Muskoka chairs he made over the past thirty years.
Thank you to all the wonderful and dedicated staff at the Hamilton General Hospital 7 South where he spent his final two months.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday April 15th, 2023 at Flamborough Hills Golf Club in Copetown. Family and friends are welcome to drop-in any time between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
