James Frederick “Fred” Rose
We the family are heartbroken to announce the passing of Fred on August 13, 2023 in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash at the age of 86. Born in Urbania, Hants Co., he was the middle child and only son of the late James and Addie (Hamilton) Rose. Fred was the last surviving member of his immediate family. His family was his main focus in life – loving them dearly. He was raised on the family dairy farm, Rose Crest Farm on Rose Point Road in Urbania and eventually came to run the farm faithfully, right up until his retirement.
Left to mourn is his wife and soulmate of 34 years, Barb (Pope); beloved children, Ron (John) Rose-Kindree, James (Seanna), Bonnielee (Wayne) Brown, Alison (Craig) Hayman and Cathy (David) Shortt; his grandchildren (who adored him), Ethan, Aidin, Madison, Leah, Talisa (Brandon), Stevie (Murray), Emilly (Patrick), Aaron (Katie), Jamie (Katy) and Jess (Christian); great grandchildren, Linley, Talan, Danica, Adalyn, Cole, Austyn, Braelyn, Lyncoln and Aila who all fondly called him “granddaddy.” Also, his good friend, Earle Swinamer.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Alisa (Blenkhorn) Duggan-Veno; sisters, Carol (Syd) McCabe, Joyce (Tom) Grue. The family would like to thank the staff of East Cumberland Lodge for their care and support of Fred in his final days as well as to Colchester East Hants VON for their care of Fred while he was at home. A special thank you as well to Sandra Ross for her care and compassion.
Private Visitation will be held in Coulter’s Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. A Committal Service will be held Wednesday, August 16 at 3pm in South Maitland United Church Cemetery, 10796 Hwy. 215, South Maitland, Hants Co., Mr. Cory Lunn officiating. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
